BIOGRAPHY

Ted won his fourth election to the Ontario Legislature on October 10, 2007 representing the riding of Halton.

He was first elected to the Ontario Legislature on June 8, 1995 representing North Halton. On June 3, 1999 he claimed the widest margin of victory in Ontario when he was re-elected to represent the new riding of Halton. Ted won his third election to the Ontario Legislature on October 2, 2003.

In September 2004 he was appointed by PC Party leader John Tory as opposition critic to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Deputy Whip. Ted held these positions under previous PC Party leader Ernie Eves. In December 2007 he was reappointed Deputy Whip as well as opposition critic to Economic Development and Trade with the addition of the Ministry of Small Business.

During his time in government Ted served as Parliamentary Assistant to Janet Ecker, Minister of Finance from April, 2002 until September 2003. He also served as Parliamentary Assistant to Bob Runciman, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade from March, 2001 until his Finance appointment in April, 2002. Prior to that he served from April, 1997 to March 2001 as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Natural Resources, John Snobelen.

In his various government positions Ted has led consultations on the insurance industry, as well as on Ontario's competitiveness in key industry sectors: commercial, industrial and institutional construction, chemicals and early-stage business investment. He served as government lead responsible for the Great Lakes Heritage Coastline project, a park and business development initiative through the Ministry of Natural Resources.

During his time at Natural Resources Ted was involved with Ontario Parks and the Niagara Escarpment Commission. Ted has also held several important committee positions including Chair of the government's finance committee. He presided over hearings that resulted in the Automobile Insurance Rate Stability Act.

He ushered the Professional Foresters' Act 2000 through the legislative process, and was able to get his private members' bill, naming a Holocaust Memorial Day in Ontario, passed by the legislature. He was a member of the task force investigation of gasoline pricing and sat on the task force investigation of Ontario's water resources.

Ted's entire private career was spent in the food and agriculture industry. He has worked for the Ministry of Agriculture, he has held positions with several private companies, and he owned and operated an IGA store in Niagara Region.

Prior to his election to the Ontario Legislature, Ted was the vice president of the Ontario Food Processors Association.

Born in Peel County, Ted obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University in 1965.

He is the nephew of former Mississauga MPP Doug Kennedy and grandson of Tom Kennedy, Ontario Premier 1948-49 and Minister of Agriculture from 1930-1953.

Ted is married and has three children and seven grandchildren.
